A wedding venue has to make a first impression on arrival, move guests comfortably between indoors and out, and look good in photographs year-round.
In the hills of Southern Georgian Bay sits a new timber event barn, next to a century farmhouse—The Pines Group handled the landscaping from design through build.
The landscape was designed to complement the architectural tone with every grade, step, and planting bed showcased in 3D first, so the clients could walk the design before we broke ground.
Symmetry at the front door
A central run of stone steps with balanced beds on either side gives the entrance a calm, formal welcome. For a wedding arrival, that is the right note.
Stone to tame the grade
The site falls away from the building. Armour stone holds the slope and turns a potential drainage problem into usable, structured terraces.
A palette borrowed from the barn
The terrace and landscape echo the barn's silvered cedar and black steel.
Planting for every season
Cedars give year-round structure. Grasses and hydrangeas bring late-summer softness, and maples carry the fall. The mix was chosen to photograph well in any season.
A dedicated outdoor room
A freestanding circular stone patio, set in the lawn and framed by planting, gives ceremonies and cocktail hours their own space. The fields and tree line are the backdrop.

All-season planting: cedars, grasses, hydrangeas, perennials, and specimen trees
Gravel pathways, drive aprons, and landscape lighting
The result
The finished venue does exactly what the drawings promised: guests arrive up the gravel drive, climb the stone steps, and pass through terraced gardens to a glass-walled entry framed by trees. The lawn rolls clean to the field edge, and the patio is ready for a ceremony.
